Student consortium

Taking the hard work out of recruiting & training of the next generation of professionals.

Student consortium

In support of London’s 32 environmental health services and the London Port Health Authority, this award-winning ALEHM service took the hard work out of recruiting and training the next generation of environmental health professionals. The scheme has been replaced and no longer operates.

The scheme is a clear example of how ALEHM is helping to protect the health and wellbeing of Londoners.

  • Supporting London Boroughs

    Supporting London boroughs by coordinating recruitment and practical training of the next generation of professionals.

  • Supporting students

    Our scheme provided students with a paid bursary and occassional paid employment to reinfirce learning and future capability

  • Diversity

    Supporting boroughs to ensure that future generations of professionals reflect the changing diversity of Londoners and being recognised through a PATH award.

10 successful years

The service

This innovative and award winning scheme supported London boroughs and their students by:

  • employing a London Student Development Officer to organise placements, support students and keep council’s and students informed about arrangements;
  • supporting a programme of practical training for environmental health students help them to develop their professional skills and complete their post-qualification Experiential Learning Portfolio;
  • granting bursaries for students for a maximum of two years; and
  • giving students a wider range of experience, skills and practical training.
